547 bird species in 74 different families are registered for the entire Yucatan Peninsula, which in turn represents 50% of all the birds reported for Mexico. Apart from the great diversity of species to be found in the area, the region’s fame for endemic species makes a visit to the Yucatan very appealing for the enthusiastic birder (14 species of endemic birds). If you are not already a birder, this is a great opportunity to start in the amazing world of birds.
Bird Watching Muyil Tour One place close to Tulum we recommend for bird watching is the "ejido" (local community) of Muyil, located next Sian Ka´an (40 min. south of Tulum). Here, we walk through a very nice village and also explore an archaeological site with the same name. Later, we take a beautiful trail through an eco-tone where we can enjoy an incredible view of the northern part of the Sian Ka´an reserve from the highest observation tower in the area. In this tour is possible to identify from 50 to 90 species of birds (depending on the time of the time of the year).
